Former German international midfielder
Marco Reus has signed a 2.5-year contract with Los Angeles Galaxy, a United States MLS side. Reus, 35, becomes the latest former international star to join an MLS team. A list that also includes
Lionel Messi,
Jordi Alba and Luis Suarez
at Inter Miami and
Olivier Giroud
at Los Angeles FC.
Reus has played 48 games for the German national team and has scored 15 goals. After an injury prevented him from being part of the team that won the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. But he featured in the 2018 World Cup. He was also a member of his country's national team at the 2012 European Championship.
Reus, who was a free agent after leaving Dortmund at the end of last season, played his last game in the UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid.
He brought the curtain down on a 12-year spell with the German club, where he played 429 games in all competitions and scored 170 goals.
The Galaxy are in first place in Major League Soccer's Western Conference, two points ahead of LAFC. They will face Atlanta United at home on August 24.
"Marco Reus is a world-class soccer player who has excelled at the highest level of the sport," said LA Galaxy General Manager Will Kuntz.
“For Marco, a two-time Bundesliga Footballer of the Year, to join the Galaxy after playing his entire career in Germany is testament to the work we continue to build at the club. We look forward to Marco's contributions to the LA Galaxy as we enter the crucial final stretch of the 2024 MLS season and beyond."
The Galaxy are currently atop the Western Conference in MLS and are second behind Inter Miami in the overall standings. Their next game is at home to Atlanta United on August 24.
