Haaland and Heung Min Son were not the only ones to score hat-tricks in the Premier League on Saturday, September 2. Brighton's young forward Evan Ferguson has also managed to do so, who may not be known to the general public yet, but will surely learn about as time goes on. The 18-year-old "Seagulls" striker impressed with the three goals he scored against not just any team, but the ambitious one in Newcastle.
At the age of just 18, the Irish striker became only the 4th player in the history of the English league to achieve something similar! He, of course, experienced deification from the world of the team, with the club posting a tweet, trolling the fans.
"What did you do when you were 18?", is the question that Brighton addressed to its followers, however
"hat-trick in the Premier League" is an answer that surely no one can give.
Youngster Ferguson joined Brighton from Irish side Bohemians in the summer of 2021 after making his debut for the club aged 14 during a pre-season friendly against Chelsea in 2019. After moving to Brighton, he made his debut in a 2–1 FA Cup win over West Brom in January 2022.
In February 2022 he made his Premier League debut under Graham Potter and became the club's youngest ever player (in the Premier League) but this year is the year the striker has really exploded into the limelight.
Ferguson has made 19 first-team appearances in all competitions, scoring 8 goals. He has also become a regular in the Republic of Ireland national team, making his debut as a substitute against Norway last November. He scored his first goal for his country just 17 minutes into his debut against Latvia in March.
Ferguson missed the FA Cup semi-final defeat by Manchester United due to a short-term ankle injury sustained during the 2–1 defeat by Chelsea on 15 April.
Since last year the young Ferguson was introduced to the English public and this year he wants to show even more things. The talent of the Irishman is more than obvious. And his Italian coach, Roberto De Zerbi is capable of taking him off football. The value of the young forward is already 30 million euros, with him having a contract until 2028. Surely if he performs like this against Newcastle, we will soon see him transfer to a "top shelf" club...
