The European Parliament will meet in plenary from 22 November until 25 November. This occasion was useful, among other things, to return the discussion on the issue of the European Super League and in general to the sports model that the European Union intends to promote.
At the end of October, the European Parliament had taken a stand against the venture inspired by the big football clubs of the "Old Continent". It did so in a statement, stressing that the European Union should have been more involved in the sports landscape, to encourage a fairer model that aligns with EU values. for inclusion and equality.
The Greek vice-president of the European Commission Margaritis Schoinas during his speech, recalled that "at 14 I had the opportunity to go to see my favorite team, Aris Thessaloniki, to play with St. Etienne, two years later with "Manchester City, even with Atletico Madrid".
"This is happening," added Mr. Schoinas,
"because we have developed into a model in which everyone has a chance in an open and meritocratic system, which provides opportunities for everyone." "This is the model on which our children and grandchildren must rely in order to aspire to the same experiences and the same values."
The @Europarl_EN today called for action to protect European sport from the threat of breakaway competitions.
