Even the most optimistic fan could not have imagined a better premiere than the one performed by the German national team on Friday night (14/6) in the match against Scotland (5-1) at the Allianz Arena in Munich.
Julian Nagelsmann's "punchers" spread excitement to their audience with... good evening at the event, already achieving two very important records:
The German national team scored its biggest victory in a final EURO phase, but also the biggest victory ever recorded in a EURO premiere in the 64 years of the competition.
The one who... once again broke the statistical "machines" and the counters, was Toni Kroos, who counted 101 accurate passes out of the 102 he attempted in the match (!), in the best performance ever recorded by a soccer player in a EURO match since 1980!
The German national team entered... furiously on the field. He took possession of the ball from the start (75% in the quarter), put pressure on the Scottish defense and in the 10th minute opened the scoring with Florian Wirtz. From a wonderful long ball from Toni Kroos, Joshua Kimmich made a nice move and sent the ball to the Leverkusen midfielder who executed with one. The goalkeeper, Gunn touched the ball which hit the post, but ended up in the back of his own net for a quick 1-0 "Panzers".
The German "machine" continued... to run at high speeds against a Scotland that had no answer in the field. And in the 20th minute, after a nice pass from Gydogan to Havertz, he turned the ball to Jamal Musiala, who shot powerfully to make it 2-0 for Germany.
In the 43' Musiala passed two opponents, Kimmich made a cross in the area to Gydogan who took the header, but Gunn saved. The Barcelona midfielder tried to re-enter the phase but was brought down by Portius. After an on field review of the French Turpin on the monitor, it showed a penalty and a dismissal for the Scottish defender. Havertz at 45'+1' hit the penalty spot, raising the score to 3-0.
With a numerical advantage and with the "air" of the three goals, Germany did what it wanted on the field. In the 68th minute, center forward Nicklas Fullkrug, who had entered the field five minutes earlier, stole the ball and with a fantastic shot raised the score to 4-0. The only thing the Scots managed was to reduce the score in the 87th minute with an own goal by the stopper Riedinger, after a period of time in the frames of the Germans.
The icing on the cake for the Germans was put by Can in the third minute of stoppage time with a very nice long shot that was wildly celebrated by the people in the stands, "writing" the final 5-1 for the "panzers".
Thus, the host national team of Germany started its duties in the
17th European Championship in the best way.
