Hansi Flick saw the exit door 10/09 from the German national team bench, after the embarrassing 4-1 home defeat by Japan in a friendly match.
Nine months before UEFA Euro 2024, the country's federation decided to remove the former Bayern Munich coach from the national team bench, seeing the poor playing condition of the "Mannschaft".
Flick took over in 2021, but the Punchers have managed just four wins in their last 17 international matches and were also eliminated in the group stage of the 2022 World Cup.
"The members of the DFB shared the same opinion, that the national team now needs a new impetus," said the president of the German football association, Bernd Neuendorf, adding: "With next year's Euros ahead, we need a different mood and a bigger self confidence".
Germany as hosts of the next European Championship have qualified directly for the final stage, however, they have shown no signs of improvement after early elimination at the World Cup in Qatar.
Coupled with the fact that the patience of the German fans was running out watching the national team not find its form, the Federation thought it was time to act.
DFB sporting director Rudi Voeller will take charge of Tuesday's (12/09) friendly with France, with Flick's successor to be named shortly.
"It is urgent to bring a coach to the national team who in a short period of time will be able to change its image and prepare it for the big date next year," said Voeller, who coached the "Punzers" from 2000-2004.
"We expect from them, like the whole country, positive impulses. A coach who can raise our level to where we know and expect it to be," he added.
Julian Nagelsmann is the favorite to take the position of federal coach.
