Thursday (August 29 ) afternoon, I am eating at noon at the Meridien Plaza in Monte Carlo, which is also the «headquarters» of UEFA. Suddenly I see at 5m on the inner terrace of the hotel the Monaco (now Galatasaray) Colombian forward, Radamel Falcao.
It is directed to the company where the owner and major shareholder of Olympiakos, Vangelis Marinakis, is located. Mr. Marinakis rises up to greet Falcao and for 10-15 minutes the two men talk. I watch as much as I can while still eating. At some point their conversation ends and Falcao leaves. I go to Mr Marinakis to greet him, and ask him if there is a question about Falcao and he replies with a smile "we talked in general …".
A few hours later, I find Falcao to be with his family (three children and his wife). I approach him and ask him if he has free time to talk. He answered me of course .. The same thing was repeated the following Friday afternoon. So I found the opportunity and asked him more. This is interview begins with Discoveryfootball.com
DF: Radamel, (CR has not yet been finalized in Galatasaray) Are you looking to continue your career in Galatasaray?
"We are in constant contact, but still nothing is certain. ‘After all, we must not forget that I still have a one-year contract with Monaco and must be financially satisfied as well".
DF: I saw you earlier, you were talking to Mr. Marinakis. Is there an issue for Olympiakos?
"We talked about a number of things in general. I understood that it was now difficult to unlikely to pursue a career in Greece".
DF: In France the championship has begun. Do you see an opponent for Paris Saint-Germain?
"I do not think so. It has the best material and it will be very difficult to find an obstacle on its way, even if it has not started well in the new league. Whether Neymar will stay or not, I don’t know, we’ll see".
DF: Your team Monaco, what can Ligue 1 achieve this year?
"Jardim has created a very good squad that will fight with all his might to win a position leading to a UEFA Champions League exit. It will certainly not be easy, as several teams are emerging strong, but will do their best to succeed".
DF: In the UEFA Champions League, which was the draw of the clubs. Do you think there might be some surprise teams, or will we see the same teams again as favorites?
"Yes the same teams Barcelona, Liverpool, Bayern, Manchester City, Real Madrid will be the teams most likely to win".
Falcao is married to Argentine singer Lorelei Tarón. In early 2013, it was revealed that Falcao was expecting his first child with her. Dominique García Tarón was born on 13 August 2013, at the Princess Grace hospital in La Colle, Monaco. His second daughter, Desirée García Tarón, was born in February 2015. His third daughter, Annette García Tarón, was born in August 2017. Due to his wife’s Polish ancestry, his children also hold Polish passports, thanks to Monaco teammate Kamil Glik, who helped with the process. Falcao is a Christian.
He is partially of English descent; George King, one of his great-grandfathers, emigrated from the North Yorkshire village of Burn near Selby in 1932 to work as an accountant for the United Fruit Company in Colombia. Owing to this ancestry, Falcao’s father attempted to make it easier for his son to play in Europe by obtaining a British passport for him, however this was rejected. His uncle was the telenovelas and film actor Herbert King.
Radamel Falcao, gave his full name Radamel Falcao García Zárate, but his father was a great admirer of the Brazilian Falcao so he gave him the name Falcao that has made him well known. The Colombian forward, after six wonderful years in Monaco, where he went in the summer of 2013, is now preparing to open a new chapter in his career.
The administration of his French club wished him all the best for himself and his family. Radamel Falcao, 33, prepares to follow a new path in Turkey. In the red and white jersey, the Colombian international striker played 140 games and scored 83 goals (14 assists).
"Radamel Falcao has written a very beautiful page in the history of AS Monaco. Talent, determination and unparalleled sense of purpose have all contributed significantly to AS Monaco’s success. I wish him all the best for this new experience he wanted to live in", Monaco’s Vice President and CEO Oleg Petrov said characteristically.
"It’s time to leave Monaco. A unique club that brought me great joy, both athletic and personal. Among the many memories I will hold with me, all of those goals that have been recorded with the red jersey and of course the trophy of the champion of France we had conquered after a great season. I would like to thank everyone in the club, their supporters and Prince Albert for the support and confidence they have always shown me. And I wish the best for the future of AS Monaco".
