Mason Greenwood is developing into Marseille's absolute star at the start of the 2024-25 season. The young English striker immediately adapted to the new conditions and already leads the Ligue 1 scorers' table with five goals after the first three matches.
The 22-year-old ace made his debut at the "Stade Vélodrome" in the not particularly good performance of Olympique Marseille against Reims (2-2), shaping the final score in the 72nd minute. In fact, referring to his experience, he commented:
"It's unbelievable, I've never seen such an audience before. I have played in many stadiums in Europe and this is the most... loudest. Playing for Marseille in this stadium and scoring my first goal meant a lot to me. I hope there will be many more during the season."
Club president Pablo Longoria says Marseille "looked at all the information" when signing Mason Greenwood from Manchester United and that he has no regrets over the deal. Greenwood, 22, left Old Trafford in a 31,5 m euro deal with the French club in August, signing until 2029.
Serious charges against Greenwood, including attempted rape and assault, were dropped in
February 2023. But Marseille have faced criticism from the local mayor, who described the move as
"not acceptable" when the club's intention to sign the forward, who spent last season on loan at Getafe in Spain, went public.
