Lee Carsley is changing the image of the England national team...

Lee Carsley, who succeeded Gareth Southgate, on the bench of the "Three Lions", even temporarily, brought the ups and downs, in the positive sense always.

Lee Carsley is interim England manager after Euro 2024

Lee Carsley at the age of 50 is now the head coach of the England national team. A team with a long history but also a lot of bitterness, as twice in recent years it has been to the final (2021 and 2024 European Championship) but left empty-handed. On August 9, 2024, the leadership of the old Albion football federation, after the resignation of Gareth Southgate, gave him the "reins" of the big team. After all, Carsley was not very... far away since he was the one leading the national team of Hope of his country, something similar to Spain and Luis De La Fuente.

The new federal coach did not perform miracles as many might think. It simply gave the opportunity (like Ivan Jovanovic in the Greek national team) to compete and other young children who for various reasons did not participate in this year's Euro or participated very little. Thus they were reborn in the new, renewed England of Lee Carsley, showing more interest in their national team.

Who would have expected that England after a lost final in this year's Euro, with a temporary coach, losses and changes, would have such a start in the Nations League? Lee Carsley, who succeeded Gareth Southgate, on the bench of the "Three Lions", even temporarily, brought the ups and downs, in the positive sense always. Made it 2/2, two wins. At the same time, he gave opportunities to footballers who were not presented in good condition at the Euros, but now they did great. So his choices justified him.

Alexander - Arnold

First and foremost example, Trent Alexander Arnold. Two-time MVP in games with Euro and Finland. In fact, in the second and most recent game, he created five chances, more than Gordon, Saka and Grealish combined. A footballer who had switched positions under Southgate's instructions moved to center and was heavily criticized for it, while leaving the pitch early.

Legendary players for England, such as Wayne Rooney, had criticized Arnold at the time that he could not live up to his new position. Liverpool's 25-year-old right wing-back, however, came back and didn't just do the back to back. But also to make everyone wonder if, after all, his former coach made such a big mistake.

Next up is Jack Grealish, who wasn't even included in the calls for the Euros. Yes, it's true he had a not particularly good season with Manchester City. But now he is not only back, but scored against Ireland.

The cases of Cole Palmer and Ollie Watkins are different, as they both suffer from problems that have prevented them from playing for their national team. Nevertheless, they had been included in Carsley's calls, who would probably count them. After all, they were the ones who were on the bench at the Euros and when they came on, they changed the course of the games.

Be that as it may, the image of England's national team has changed. At the moment we don't see England who were barely struggling to get points in the European tournament and someone in the end would redeem them.

Indeed, Southgate may not have properly exploited the footballers he had in his hands, but no one can take away from him the fact that he reached two European finals, even so.

Now, of course, the credit belongs to Carsley, who in his next game will welcome the tough Greece of Tziolis and Ioannidis...
