One of the big stars who wrote their own special story in the Greek championship, is without a doubt the international Hungarian forward, Imre Boda. The strong and skilled center forward played in our country from 1988 to 1993. He was born in Zolnok on October 10, 1961. He started his career in 1973 in the infrastructure departments of MTK, while in 1980 he was promoted to the first team. He played there until 1987, scoring 58 goals in 190 league games. Then he went for a short time, on loan to Vasas. In the summer of 1988 he was acquired by Olympiakos Volou. His move to Greece caused a great sensation. In fact, Olympiacos and PAOK were interested in Imre, but in the end, the Volos team prevailed.

In the team of Magnesia, Imre Boda, a fast, strong, nice dribbler, managed to become the top scorer of the league in the 1988-89 season with 20 goals. He even surpassed the great name of the time and his compatriot, Lagios Detari who played at Olympiakos (he remained at 15 goals). In his second year at Olympiakos Volos, Boda did not let him score more goals (in 15 games 10 goal).

His name was heard with respect in every stadium. The next season, Volos played in the B-category. In the first round he scored 10 goals, but in January OFI took him with a transfer. His passage from the team of Crete was not as good, maybe even disappointing. In the first season he scored only 5 goals in 20 appearances, while in the second he had 4 appearances without scoring but left the team in December 1991. He returned to Olympiakos Volou, which participated in the BD National, where he played until 1993, when he returned to his homeland he played in BSK Budapest, where he hung up his shoes. Imre Boda also played 8 times for the Hungarian National Team, scoring 3 goals.

Manos Staramopoulos found Imre Boda, talked to him about the situation with the coroner in Hungary, the current talents, Messi, Qatar and various other interesting topics…

1. Tell me first, are you dealing with them now in Hungary?

R/: "I was the president of an A` Local team (Gyali Barati) next to Budapest for 20 years. Now I am retired and I spend 6-7 months in Greece where I bought a small apartment in Agria Volos ".

2. How is football in your once strong country? Are there talents?

"In the last 5-6 years we have better results, we entered the European Championship twice (2016 and 2020). "Unfortunately, the Hungarian league is not strong, we have talents but everyone plays ball abroad."

3. Tell me some names…

"Goalkeeper Peter Gulácsi  and striker Roland Salai are our best players in my opinion."

4. Last we see that your national team shows some noticeable improvement. Where does this come from? In the presence of the Italian coach, Delio Rossi?

"Rossi is a very good coach, as was Pal Dardai  with whom he got off to a good start, and Bernd Stark (who was for a time on the Youth Olympiakos team as head coach) who continued Pal Dardai ‘s work."

5. How is the championship evolving in Hungary, now that there is a big problem of the pandemic with the new mutation of Omicron?

"The championship is going normally, so far the Omicron mutation has not changed anything, all the matches have been held. We will see what happens in the spring. "

6. How did you see the success of the Italian national team in the 16th European Championship, but then in the World Cup qualifiers it needs to give a draw to be present next year in the World Cup finals?

"There are a lot of good national teams in Europe and only 13 places in the World Cup. What happened to Italy made us understand what a great quality there is in European football, nor can the winner of the European Championship be sure that he will be present at the World Cup. Italy and Portugal will not play in Qatar ... "

7. How much will world football help to move for the first time to a country in the Middle East, namely to the small but beautiful Qatar?

"The Middle East has not yet been the amphitheater of the World Cup. It is important to have a World Cup in every region of the world, just as 2010 was for the first time in Africa. "World football will help but it will be difficult to do it in November and December instead of in the summer."

8. Will the presence of Lionel Messi in Paris Saint-Germain help the French team achieve its lofty goal of winning the Champions League?

"Messi is the biggest and best footballer in the world. Of course it will help. "Together with Mbappe and Neymar, they make Paris Saint-Germain a great team."

9. Will FIFA's proposal to hold the World Cup every 2 years be in favor of football or will it create new problems?.

"I do not think it is a good idea that the World Cup will lose its prestige every 2 years. Others saw the idea because of business, I think ...

10. Do you rightly believe that Lionel Messi won the Golden Ball again this year?

"Messi always gets the Golden Ball fairly. He is a great, top football player.

11. In the Champions League do you think there will be any surprises afterwards, or will the same great powers play the first role again?

"Surprises will probably be made until the phase of the 8 best teams, but in the final four only great forces will enter."

12. Do you watch Greek football?

"I always watch how the National Team of Greece is doing, what are the results in the Super League and of course the results of Olympiakos  Volos, which is now in the second category…"

13. Tell us about your family too

"It simply came to our notice then. Both me and my wife (Tude), and the children who grew up too much, my daughter is 31 years old (Fanny) and my son is 36 (Benjamin). Time is running".

And you're absolutely right man, Imre. you are always fine !!!!
