FIFA has released new figures on the worldwide television audience the Qatar World Cup is attracting, showing just how much the world loves the most popular sport on planet Earth. In Asia, the match between Japan and Costa Rica (0-1) on Sunday 27 November drew an average audience of 36.37 million viewers, surpassing that of Japan's (2-1) win against Germany by over 10 million.


On Thursday 24 November in South Korea, 11.14 million people watched the match against Uruguay (0-0), representing a 97% increase in the TV audience compared to the average of the group stage matches at the World Cup in Brazil 2014 and was 18% higher than in Russia in 2018.


On Sunday 28 November, 65% of people watching TV in Spain saw 'La Roja' play Germany (1-1), while over three quarters (76.6%) of people watching TV in the Netherlands , they saw the draw of "Oranie" (1-1) with Ecuador. This was the highest television audience in the country in 2022 and the largest of any match during the 2018 World Cup.


In France


In France, Les Bleus' meeting with Denmark (2-1) was broadcast on TF1, with an average audience of 11.6 million, peaking in the final minutes of the match as 14.56 million watched Kylian Mbappe score. giving victory to the French.


Portugal's match against Uruguay (2-0) on Monday 28 November was the highest TV audience in Portugal for a World Cup match. In total, 5.35 million viewers in Portugal watched at least one minute of coverage.


In England


English-language coverage of the USA's 0-0 draw with England on Friday, November 25 was the most-watched men's soccer match on US television ever, with a peak audience of 19.65 million viewers on FOX.


In Mexico, coverage of the loss (2-0) to Argentina had a national audience of 20.96 million viewers, while the average audience in Canada for the match against Croatia (1-4) was 4.33 million.


In Argentina, the average audience for the two-time World Cup winners in their crucial match against Mexico (2-0) was 8.48 million. The crowd was the highest of the tournament so far in the country and 5% higher than both their first match against Saudi Arabia and the average crowd for group stage matches during the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
