Hungarian-born Swedish forward Viktor Einar Gyökeres finished last year's season in Portugal scoring 29 goals, which contributed significantly to his team Sporting's 20th Primeira Liga title. In fact, on the 5th of May, the day his team formally secured the title and while he scored a goal. Which made him the second Swedish footballer to win the Portuguese league top scorer title, after Mats Magnusson (1989-1999). And two days later; Gyokeres, underwent surgery on his left knee in Lisbon.
Despite this, Gyokeres (born June 4, 1998 - of Hungarian descent through his grandfather) managed to return to action with a bang. And with the start of the new league, he started again to send the ball into the opposing nets. Gyökeres made his senior debut with Swedish side Brommapojkarna in 2015, with whom he made over 50 appearances before signing for Brighton & Hove Albion three years later. Gyokeres, had been loaned out to a number of clubs, including St Pauli, Swansea City and Coventry City, joining the latter permanently in 2021. Sporting signed him in 2023 for a club-record transfer worth €20 million.
