Another European front is opening against Gianni Infantino, as Belgium has decided to directly link its stance in the upcoming FIFA presidential elections to the answers it expects from the world federation. And this time, the focus is not just on a football decision, but on the very way in which power is exercised in international football.
The Belgian Football Association (RBFA)
has made it clear that it will not support a new term for Infantino unless it first receives convincing explanations about the high-profile Folarin Balogun case, as well as more serious governance issues.

The American striker’s case has left a deep mark. His automatic ban following his red card at the World Cup was suspended by FIFA, allowing him to play against Belgium in the round of 16. The decision provoked even greater reactions due to Donald Trump's previous personal intervention towards Infantino. For Brussels, two months later, the crucial questions remain without a substantive answer.
"It is essential that such cases are dealt with in a transparent and rigorous manner," the RBFA stressed, even asking that the issue be raised at the FIFA Council on October 15.
Belgium, however, is also opening a second file: the FIFA Forward Enterprise and the plan to exploit the commercial rights of the World Cup. It believes that critical decisions were not adequately justified and is calling for greater transparency.
The president of the RBFA, Pascale Van Dam, insists that the Belgians are seeking "clarity" and improvement of procedures, while maintaining close communication with UEFA.
The message to Zurich, however, is difficult to misinterpret: this time Infantino is not simply asked to give explanations. He is asked to give them before asking for Belgium's vote again.
