Things are not looking good for Manchester United. The 2-1 home defeat by Brighton, which was the first time the Seagulls have won at Old Trafford in their history, has created further problems for management.
Before the game, several United fans had gathered outside Old Trafford and with banners and loud voices they were calling for the departure of the Glazer family, which is the owner family of the great English team.
It is a fact that since the day that Sir Alex Ferguson retired from active action, United has not been able to get back on its feet and, of course, be a star player in the Premier League. Yes, he won the UEFA Europa League in 2017 by beating Ajax 2-0 in Stockholm, but from then on, nothing. Neither before Moyes achieved anything, nor after the Norwegian, Gunnar Solskjaer.
And the world has demands. It is not possible that the legendary United cannot for so many years present a remarkable group and constantly be outside the first places.
So it makes perfect sense that arrows also fall on the Glazer Family, which also has the majority package of red devils.
The Glazers took the first steps to buy Manchester United on March 2, 2003. Then the American businessmen bought their first block of shares in United for 9 million pounds (8,800,000 euros), specifically they took 2, 9% of the club. In September of the same year, the family acquired 3.17% of the club, exceeding the 3% ceiling. It is pointed out that the shareholders who owned more than 3% could make some changes in the group.
In May 2005, Malcolm Glazer joined hands with J.P.McManus and John Magnier (previous owners), increasing his ownership to around 57% and then went up to 62% by buying Harry Dobson's (Scottish mining owner) stake. . On June 22, 2005 it was announced that the Glazers had bought the team for a total of £800 million (€945 million)!.
So seeing the world of the red devils that the other clubs with the additions of new and important footballers are starting to escape from United's range, they want the removal of the Glazers from the helm of the club. That is why they are pushing to change the ownership regime through an online campaign they prepared.
So with the hashtag #EmptyOldTrafford they are calling on United fans to boycott. Specifically, they are calling for a mass walkout of the crowd at the derby against Liverpool on August 22.
