Without a doubt, 2022 is the year of Karim Benzema. The French international forward (born 19/12/1987) at over 34 years old is in the best playing condition of his career. As well as celebrating winning La Liga, the Champions League and the European Super Cup, he is the top scorer in the Top-5 European leagues in all competitions (for the calendar year 2022). So Karim breaks one record after another, with 2022 proving to be his year.
The season ended by finding the French star celebrating, in addition to the first place in La Liga, the conquest of the Champions League (in May), now on 10/8 in Helsinki, Finland, he also added the conquest of the European Super Cup against Eintracht Frankfurt (2 -0). A team that Real Madrid had not faced since the legendary final of 18/5/1960 when in Glasgow with the Puskas (4 goals), Di Stefano (3) had crushed the German team, with the amazing 7-3 in the final Champions Cup.
So this year's Real Madrid of Carlo Ancelotti, thanks to the second goal he scored in the 65th minute in the game against Eintracht, Benzema reached
324 goals in the shirt of the "Merengues". He thus managed to become the 2nd scorer of all time at Real, surpassing the legendary
Raul (323).
At the same time, as far as the 2022 calendar year is concerned, Benzema is the top scorer in all competitions in Europe's Top-5 leagues so far.
The 34-year-old has scored in all four competitions he played in 2022 (La Liga, Champions League, Super Cup and Supercopa), while with the goal against Eintracht he reached 25 goals, having one more than his compatriot Paris Saint-Germain striker, Kylian Mbappe.
Since January, Karim has scored 12 times in the Spanish league, also winning his first Pichichi trophy.
However, the first place is held by the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo, who has scored a total of 450 goals.
Now Karim Benzema is emerging as the undisputed favorite to win this year's Ballon d'Or, the world's noblest and highest individual award. The selection of the candidates will take place in August, while the announcement of the great triumphant will be made before the start of the final phase of the World Cup (Qatar November 20), as the management of France Football, the great and leading magazine, does not want to the award is delayed. So for this year, the World Cup will not be "involved" in the award, nor will of course any football player who will take part.
So Benzema, as Carlo Ancelotti recently stated, "is there anyone who doubts whether he should win the Ballon d'Or?" So that says it all, as much as some may argue, Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has also contributed to Real's successes, but let's leave that for now.
