The decision was taken. The referendum that took place on Sunday night (19/12) between the members of Barcelona passed. Thus, the new financial plans were approved to proceed, including an additional debt of 1.5 billion euros, which will allow the club to renovate the emblematic but ... dilapidated stadium Camp Nou and its surroundings.
Goldman Sachs, a well-known investment group that had agreed to lend 595m euros to help restructure the club's debt in August, will finance the renovation of the stadium, based on a 35-year plan, including an initial five-year grace period.
The plan was approved by
87.8%
of the
48,623 participants, who constitute about 44.2% of the total members of the association.
The debts of the Spanish club amount to 1.35 billion euros, of which 673 million are owed to banks.
Now the main priority of the administration and of Joan Laporta, is the general renovation of the stadium. The goal is for the Camp Nou to be ready by the end of 2025 with work starting next year to expand capacity to 105,000 seats, making it Europe's largest stadium.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta said the club expects around € 200 million in additional revenue per year from the new stadium, thanks to sponsorships and naming rights, ticketing, catering, VIP boxes, meetings and events.
The project will also include the renovation of the club's infrastructure, such as the offices and the Palau Blaugrana, a multi-sport venue that has been ... fined multiple times for failing to meet the requirements of European basketball tournaments.
The new Palau Blaugrana will be completed in 2026 and the offices and the hotel "Campus Barça" by 2027.
