During the 2021/22, he established himself in the first team and made his UEFA Champions League debut. A formidable finisher, he opened his account in the most prestigious of European club competitions in the quarter-final second leg against Liverpool in April 2022.
The following season, he netted 27 times in 47 competitive appearances, and made his senior international debut against Nigeria on 17 November 2022, with a goal and an assist. Fernando Santos named him in the World Cup squad to go to Qatar, and he caught the eye notably with a hat-trick against Switzerland in the Round of 16. He currently has seven caps and four goals for the Selecção.
“I'm very proud and happy to join Paris Saint-Germain,” said Gonçalo Ramos. “PSG are one of the biggest clubs in the world with one of the best squads.”
PSG have been in the market for an out-and-out striker for a year now following their failure to lure Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich. This summer, Paris Saint-Germain had been making efforts with varying degrees of seriousness to sign one of Victor Osimhen, Marcus Thuram, Harry Kane, Dušan Vlahović or Rasmus Højlund. Under-pressure PSG Sporting advisor Luís Campos was said to have been leading the way to bring Ramos to the Parc des Princes, notably by way of his proximity with the Portuguese forward’s agent Jorge Mendes.
