The FIFA World Cup will be held from November 21 to December 18, 2022 for the first time in its history in Qatar, in the Arab world and the first cup to be held in a Muslim country.
It will be the second World Cup to be held entirely in Asia since the 2002 World Cup in South Korea and Japan. In addition, it will be the last event in which 32 teams will participate, as in the next event in 2026 that will take place in the USA, Mexico and Canada, the participating teams will increase to 48.
It was selected as the host country for the 2022 World Cup on December 2, 2010, while five years later, due to the very high summer temperatures in Qatar, FIFA decided to move the event to the "winter" (for Europe), despite the competition program of European championships.
In the 2022-2023 season, the European Championships will start as every year in August. However, a break of 1 month is planned to allow the holding of the World Cup. The teams will release their players instead of the standard 14 days, just one week before the World Cup, and the tournament will be repeated at the end of December, ten days after the event.
The start of the tournament will take place at the Lusail Stadium on Monday, November 21st for the first match of the host country, Qatar, with an opponent who will be announced in the draw on Friday, April 1st.
A month of racing will follow until the final on Sunday, December 18, at the Lusail Stadium, 15 km north of the capital Doha.
In the World Cup, unlike what happens in the European Cup, there is an extra match, that of the third and fourth place played by the two teams that lose in the semifinals, one day before the grand final.
