Mikel Arteta and his Arsenal stalwarts turned the (supposed) derby against Chelsea into a one-man show. They cruised to a resounding 5-0 victory, leaving the "Blues" Argentinian manager Mauricio Pochettino sitting brooding and embittered in a corner, unable to come up with an explanation for how this debacle happened.
Arsenal crushed Chelsea in the "battle" of London and remain "alive" in the title claim, even if they are not the first favourites.
The "gunners" could not have imagined such a victory over the "blues" but based on the image of the match, one conclusion is: The home team dominated every corner of the pitch and it is no exaggeration to claim that they could have score... and more goals.
Such was the difference between the two teams, the 5-0 final
was Arsenal's biggest win over Chelsea in Premier League history.
It should also be noted that until Tuesday night (23/4), Chelsea had not been beaten by three goals by another London side in the Premier League.
However, its collapse by Arsenal puts the "blues" in an extremely difficult position and it is obvious that money alone is not enough for Chelsea to progress to a new era of success. The Blues' new management has spent countless millions of pounds on signing players, but Chelsea's image is disappointing.
A radical restructuring of the club is obviously needed, with decisions that will affect the entire structure of the club and not just the team roster.
And here is the big question that torments Chelsea fans, regarding the future of the team. Chelsea is currently "immersed" in a series of big problems and most importantly, it doesn't seem to have the "answers".
The summer is certainly coming but the "recipe" followed last year by the Londoners did not succeed and the issue for the management of the "blues" is whether last year's suffering became a lesson.
It is a fact that Arteta's team plays excellent football and on their day can destroy any opponent, as they did against Chelsea for example. However, the defeat by Aston Villa at the Emirates, some time ago, may prove to be disastrous in the effort of the premiers to win this year's championship.
But what is certain is, whether Arsenal wins the championship or not, that the "gunners" play impressive football, offering a rich spectacle.
And this is certainly credited to her coach.
Mikel Arteta
has been upgrading his team year after year, having great ideas, especially regarding the development of his team. Of course, Arteta relies a lot on his wonderful midfield, where the Norwegian, Martin Οdegaard, the Englishman,
Declan Rice and the Italian, Jorginho stand out, while Tomas Partey, who last year was its top player, is still not 100% ready. If Partey can find his good self again soon then Arsenal will achieve other equally great things...
