Lionel Messi world champion with the Argentine national team in 2022 in the stadiums of Qatar and now one of the heroes of the professional league of the United States better known as MLS , is said to influence everything in the Argentine camp. Well it's not news of course. It is expected as his presence gives a big boost to the world champion's game. So everyone recognizes his great contribution to remain as a technician of the team and Lionel Scaloni.
After the triumph of winning the
2022 World Cup in Qatar, Albiceleste coach
Lionel Scaloni
began to question whether his journey with the national team was over. He had achieved the biggest goal, having already enjoyed
Copa América and Finalsima triumphs, and wondered if the time had come to close his chapter with the Argentine national team
Scaloni therefore wanted to extend his decision, he spoke with Lionel Messi who played a catalytic role in the renewal of his contract with the Argentine Football Federation:
"I spoke with Leo and other footballers. . I spoke with him first because he is the leader, about all that he represents. It was that day that everyone thought I would leave. He received me very well."
"I spoke to other players, to Angel (Di Maria), to Lautaro (Martinez), to many players, who I thought I should speak to. They are people I trust a lot, that I love a lot. Ota (Otamendi), Rodrigo (De Paul)...players who have been with us since day one and have given us a lot. I had to speak up and tell them my opinion," he added.
Scaloni is now
under contract until the World Cup in 2026, but added about the possibility of an exit:
“We needed to stop football for a while. It was a difficult year beyond the win, many things had happened. There were some personal issues that we had to think about and make decisions from there. We met with those we felt we needed to talk to, discussed our concerns and most importantly knew we were all strong enough to carry on. You never know the deadlines, I'm going on and on."
