FIFA President Gianni Infantino thanked Donald Trump “with all my heart” for his support for the 2026 World Cup, hours before the Republican was sworn in as the 47th president of the United States.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino thanked Donald Trump “with all my heart” for his support for the 2026 World Cup, hours before the Republican was sworn in as the 47th president of the United States, which will host the tournament alongside Mexico and Canada.

“Your public show of support, as the new President of the United States, especially for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, is a sign of great respect for FIFA and the continued growth of our sport around the world. I thank you with all my heart and I assure you that together we will ensure that the United States welcomes the world and that soccer unites the world,” Infantino said.


The message was shared on the soccer leader's social media, with Infantino also saying it was an "incredible honor" and "privilege" that Donald Trump, in his speech, mentioned the World Cup. Infantino, who recently met with Donald Trump, thanked him for the welcome in Florida, in a meeting in which they spoke not only about the 2026 World Cup, but also about the Club World Cup, a new competition. which will be held this year in several cities in North America.
