At this time last year, everyone or most in England was talking admiringly of Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish. The international footballer moved for a record amount of 117 million euros (to Manchester City but he still hasn't shown what everyone expected. Now in this season the English footballer who impresses is Leicester's James Maddison. Many even consider him (possibly rightly) as the most in-form English footballer.
His amazing performances in 2022, "forced" the national coach of England, Gareth Southgate to do the obvious, to include him in the mission for the big trip to Qatar, where the World Cup will be held.
The 25-year-old Leicester football player thus
makes his biggest dream come true. To compete at the highest level and even with his national team, something that many envy (in a good way)
Maddison thus won a great personal battle. When he was 15 he made a post in which he wrote:
"Today my teacher told me that only one in a million can become a footballer. I told him I'm the one."
Now James is vindicated as he anxiously awaited the call-up to the pitches of beautiful Qatar. 2022 could certainly be said to be the year Madison made the big leap!. 'Madders' performances have been amazing and prove that this calendar year is almost his own, at least in the Premier League.
James Maddison in 2022 has managed to score 17 goals in all competitions, and 10 assists. Also, since August 2021, no other English midfielder has managed as many assists as Maddison, who has 30 goals+assists (18 goals and 12 assists) in that time. With footballers like Mount, Foden, Grealish and Saka watching his back.
But even in this year's Leicester, which is not at its best, let's not say at its worst, as it is in 14th place in the Premier League standings, Maddison has managed not to...follow it but to be perhaps the only one that stands out. Since the start of the season, he has scored 6 goals and 4 assists in 13 appearances.
Qatar might be Maddison's big chance to put his name next to the Premier League leaders. It's the 25-year-old's chance to prove he deserves a big transfer and a place on one of the Premier League's top rosters.
This is why James Maddison deserves to make England's World Cup squad...
