Inter Milan’s captain Lautaro Martinez was ecstatic after his team knocked out Barcelona at Guiseppe Meazza to advance into the final of the UEFA Champions League. The 27-year-old was initially a doubt for the second leg after he went off injured in the first. However, he raced against time, became fit, and was named in the starting lineup.

What Martinez said, “I am so happy. I am so proud of Inter Milan. I am so grateful to the fans and to my family who are here today," he said, per the BBC.

"I wasn't in a great place and I wasn't 100% today, but the medical staff worked so hard to get me match fit. We will do what we can - we just have one more step to go. We want to go there and win it. We will do all we can to ensure that we get Inter Milan to the high summit of European football."

Martinez began his professional career in Argentina and Racing Club in 2015. He played for Racing for four seasons in both the league and the Copa Libertadores, scoring 27 goals in 60 appearances. In July 2018, he was acquired by Inter for 22.7 million euros. In the Italian team, taking advantage of the absence of his compatriot forward, Mauro Icardi (deservedly) won a starting position. And in the 2019-20 season, he scored in four consecutive Champions League games.

Martinez has represented Argentina at various youth levels and competed in the 2017 South American U-10 Championship and the 2017 U-20 World Cup. He made his debut for the men's national team in March 2018 and was a member of Argentina's squad for the 2019 Copa America.

He is undoubtedly one of the world's top strikers and Inter are lucky to have him in their ranks... He will certainly be one of their great assets in the Champions League final on May 31 in Munich, against Paris Saint-Germain.
