Kane is now the top scorers for England in all his history

Harry Kane striker of England

Harry Kane scored a penalty to make it 2-0 for England against Italy, taking his tally to 54 goals, overtaking Wayne Rooney and becoming the top scorer for the Lions.

Another record for Harry Kane! Tottenham Hotspur's top scorer is now alone at the top of the England national team goalscoring chart. In the 42nd minute of the away match against Italy after his own header, Di Lorenzo made a hand in the area. The Lions captain took the penalty, beat Donnarumma and made it 2-0 for his country.

WITH one strike of the boot, Harry Kane blasted away the demons of England’s last two major tournament defeats and became his nation’s greatest goalscorer.

It was Kane’s infamous penalty miss which cost England  their chance of dethroning champions France at the World Cup, and it was Roberto Mancini’s Italy who had denied them glory in the Euros final of 2021.

Kane reached 54 goals with the national team. Thus he left behind the great Wayne Rooney with 53, followed by Sir Bobby Charlton (49), Gary Lineker (48). 54 - Harry Kane has the England men's record for:

Goals scored (54)

Goals as captain (46)

Goals via penalties (18)

Goals in a single year (16 in 2021)

Goals in major tournaments (12)
