Edin Terzic's Borussia Dortmund, with work, calmness, prudence, but of course luck, now holds the title case in the Bundesliga in its hands.
Borussia Dortmund took advantage of Bayern's "stumbling" in Munich (lost 3-1 to Leipzig) and now that they have overcome the away obstacle of
Augsburg (won 0-3) they are projected as the
first favorites
to win the championship.
"The Westphalians"
climbed to first place in the standings with
70 points and with a victory in the last match against the not particularly strong Mainz they will
win the championship.
The main protagonist of the winners was the forward Sébastien Haller, who scored the first two goals of his team in the 59' and 84', while the final score was made in the added time by the international Julian. The home team played with 10 players from the 38th minute as Uduokai was sent off with a straight red card.
Borussia Dortmund manager Edin Terzic said the return of striker Sebastien Haller from cancer was the season's "biggest miracle" as his side moved to the brink of the Bundesliga title. Since Haller's return, Dortmund have lost just one of 18 league matches.
"That he's back with us is a pure miracle" Terzic said after the game, praising the forward's "important" presence "in the dressing room".
The manager said the 28-year-old Haller scores "important goals" but "also lets the others next to him shine".
Terzic, said he hoped Haller would replicate his success next week "then he'll be the hero of the season. But we're already very happy with him anyway."
Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl, who made the decision to bring Haller to the club from Dutch side Ajax, praised "Sebastien's special story. He deserves extra credit."
