Long-time champions Barcelona ended the season with a defeat (the third in the last four games). They lost 2-1 in "Ballaidos", from Celta  with two goals from Gabri Veiga and secured their stay in La Liga, without... worrying about the other results.

Valencia and Cádiz also got the point they wanted to be sure of (1-1 with Betis and Elche respectively), with the "bats" avoiding, even at the last minute, the first relegation since 1986.

In the "Benito Villamarin" game, the last page was written in the career of the winger, Joaquin, who retired from active action at the age of 42 and after 23 professional seasons. Of which 14 in Betis and another six Valencia, against which he was lucky enough to play his last game.

Valladolid fell

A penalty by Embarba in the 87th minute of the Espanyol - Almeria match, determined the third team which is relegated to the second division. The 3-3 draw won by the Andalusians in Barcelona "sent" Valladolid back to the second division, which at the same time could not beat Getafe at "Jose Zorrilla", remaining at 0-0.

Paulo Pezzolano's side with a win would win their stay in any case. But the Madrids with a massive defense kept the precious draw until the end (if they lost, they would be relegated to a tie with Almeria).

It is worth noting that Espanyol's players remained motionless in the first minute of their match, as a sign of the team's protest against the refereeing and the federation, which they consider responsible for their - already confirmed - relegation. The Almeria players respected the protest of their colleagues and imitated them.
