Gonçalo Ramos continues to be one of Benfica's figures this season and scored again in the 5-0 victory against Chaves, reaching the mark of 25 career goals in the service of the "Eagles", this with only 21 years on the citizen card. However, only great legends of Benfica managed to reach that mark of goals younger than the Portuguese under-21 international.
Fulfilling his 3rd season in Benfica's main team - the 2nd complete, since in 2019/20 he spent a lot of time in the B team -, Gonçalo Ramos has already surpassed the best goals record for the "Reds" and has 11 goals scored this season, being the top scorer among Roger Schmidt's men.
That record allowed him to reach 25 goals with an eagle on his chest and this at just 21 years, four months and nine days, becoming the 8th youngest ever to reach such a mark at the service of the "Reds".
Looking at this top, with the help of our Playmaker Stats, we realize that the young forward is only surpassed in this record by some of the greatest legends in Benfica's history, such as António Simões, Eusébio, Mário Coluna or José Águas. The youngest ever to reach 25 goals with an eagle on his chest was Guilherme Espírito Santo, in 1937, when he was just 18 years old.
I've seen many comparisons here, but for me and with the due exceptions and differences , it reminds me even more of Nuno Gomes. He also missed goals and there were times when he was criticized for not having very good finishing numbers, but the man worked a lot up front and allowed many teammates to score or come up with space. I was very pissed off, but I remember that time when Deane scored a load of goals, much for the duo he played with him.
I think Ramos is a bit like that. He is always on the move and opening up spaces. It's no wonder that Rafa also manages to appear so many times in the finishing zone.
Yes, I agree he needs to improve his finishing but I think it's the kind of PL that Schmidt appreciates for his scheme.
