Serie A clubs will be able to register two non-EU players per year starting from the next transfer window, without the obligation of having one leave. This is the novelty - desired by the Lega Serie A with the approval of the Footballers' Association - that emerged from today's federal council, in which Gravina obtained the delegation to modify the Noif which plans to extend the quantity always in the order of the quotas established by CONI on the basis of the Bossi-Fini law. Until now, clubs could still register two players per year, but one had to necessarily leave the same club, for example by going on loan elsewhere.
In fact, previously a Serie A club could sign a maximum of
two non-EU players with the obligation
to replace one present in the squad. This obligation has lapsed thanks to the decision taken today, as confirmed by the president of the Lega Serie A
Lorenzo Casini.
At the end of the federal council meeting, Gabriele Gravina spoke. “The number of non-EU citizens eligible for membership will not increase” is the announcement of the President of the FIGC regarding the change to the regulation. Then he continued by stating: "This change has been awaited for many years and for us it is a real success."
"It had been over ten years since a request had been accepted, which was to adjust the number of non-EU citizens who can arrive every year and which is what happens in other countries. Now there will be two without any substitution restriction", underlined the
President of the Lega Serie A, Lorenzo Casini.
