The Angolan, David Carmo may have finally preferred Porto to continue his career, but Olympiakos, holder of the Europa Conference League, did not remain idly. He moved very quickly, methodically and came to an agreement with Salernitana and took their tall 22-year-old centre-back, Lorenzo Pirola. An ambitious and talented stopper who had a contract with the Italian team until the summer of 2025, but as soon as he heard about a proposal from Greece and more specifically from Olympiakos, he gladly accepted to continue his career with the red and whites. He thus becomes the 5th Italian to wear the red and white shirt.
The 22-year-old Italian signed a
3-year contract, while his former club Salerno will collect the sum of 3 million euros (part of which will also be collected by Inter, who had sold the footballer to the Salerno group and maintained a small resale rate).

The left-footed central defender was born on February 20, 2002 and comes from Salernitana, with whom he has played as a starter for the last two years in Serie A. He started in the infrastructure divisions of Inter, with the first team of which he made his debut in the Italian Championship in 2020. This was followed by a two-year loan spell at Monza, which saw them gain promotion to Serie A. In Serie A, he has made 54 appearances and scored three goals.
Referring to how he made the decision to continue in Greece, Pirola said: "Olympiakos is definitely the most important club in Greece, they recently won the Conference League so this year they have a chance to make a good run in the Europa League. It was an easy and quick decision for me to accept the offer, and I'm sure I did the right thing by coming here to play."
Luigi Cennamo
The Greek-Italian goalkeeper played for Olympiakos in the period 1997-2001, but did not manage to write any official participation with the Red and Whites. In the 1999-2000 season he played at Aegaleo on loan, while in 2001 he moved to Burnley as a free agent.
Enzo Maresca
The current Chelsea manager cashed in on promotion with Leicester in the Premier League. As a midfielder he had a great career and played for Olympiakos in the 2009-2010 season. With Piraeus he scored 8 goals in 39 appearances.
Leandro Greco
In 2012, the then 26-year-old winger Leandro Greco was acquired by AS Roma, without offering much, scoring one goal and four assists in 38 games.
Nicola Leali
Last on the list before Pirola was goalkeeper Nicola Leali. The current Genoa goalkeeper was acquired on loan from Juventus in the summer of 2016 from Olympiakos. He stayed for one season at Piraeus as he was quite unstable and returned to "Old Lady " in June 2017.
