Tottenham and France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is one title away from writing his name indelibly in World Cup history.
Only Argentina separates him from becoming statistically the most successful goalkeeper in World Cup history. While he can equal the Brazilian Zilmar dos Santos (1958 and 1962) who is the only goalkeeper (so far) to have won two World Cups by being a starter in the final.
Also, if the 35-year-old Lioris celebrates the title with his team in the final, he will become the first goalkeeper to win the World Cup twice as a captain.
It is worth remembering that only four goalkeepers have captained their national team in World Cup finals: Gianpiero Kobe (Italy/1934), Dino Zoff (Italy/1982), Iker Casillas (2010) and Hugo Lloris (2018).
"It's a golden opportunity to go down in history", admitted Lioris after the semi-final and the triumph over Morocco.
