Frank Lampard is officially back on the Chelsea bench from Thursday (6/4), returning almost two years after his departure. The "blues" announced that the 44-year-old technician will take over the technical leadership of the team until the end of the season, replacing Graham Potter, who was sacked on Sunday, April 2.
Somehow, Lampard returned to the club he served for over a decade as a footballer and was first manager before being sacked in January 2021.
Lampard's first spell on the Blues bench was from July 2019 to January 2021 and he had a record of 44 wins, 15 draws and 25 losses in 84 games.
Meanwhile Lampard said it was an easy decision for him to return to Chelsea as he has a lot of feelings for this club.
Frank Lampard takes charge of the Blues for the second time with the aim of securing a European ticket for the new year.
The English coach, in his first statements ahead of the match against Wolves in Molineux Stadium for the Premier League, said, among other things, that it was not a difficult decision to return, while he also spoke in the best words about Mason Mount, whom he had as a from the first violins in his first term at the Londoners but also at Derby, the first team of his coaching career.
"For me it's not a job half done. It sounds a bit like a Hollywood movie. I just want to work and help the team as much as I can. It was an easy decision. This is my team. I have a lot of emotions. I come with the belief that I can help until the end of the season.
I will give everything to give the fans what they want. I came to see the team two weeks ago. I can imagine how it felt but the discussions hadn't started yet. There is a lot of talent in the team. I am happy to work with these talented players and to help them," said the 44-year-old coach.
"Mason has been a fantastic player for me at Derby and Chelsea. I know he has had a few minor injuries. I have to speak to him and find out what level he is at, but I know what to get from Mason. He is a great player for Chelsea," Frank Lampard said of Mason Mount.
