The problems don't end for Florian Wirz and Liverpool
He has not yet been able to justify the cost of his transfer nor has he adapted to the pace of the Premier League.
The highly paid German international midfielder, Florian Wirtz, for the umpteenth time since last summer when he joined the Reds (after the champions' defeat at the Etihad by Manchester City), is back in the spotlight. The situation in general at Anfield is becoming increasingly tense.
Liverpool is going through one of its worst periods in recent years, having spent 11 matches in the Premier League and 4 in the UEFA Champions League. With five defeats in the league, seven in the last 10 official games, and a general atmosphere of confusion, which not even coach Arne Slot can hide.
The “reds” suffered another “clean”
3-0 defeat on Sunday afternoon by Pep Guardiola’s “citizens”, a fact that raised even more questions about both the team’s progress and the image of some players on the pitch. Especially the club’s most expensive transfer in the positive “window”:
Florian Wirtz.
The German footballer cost the management more than 120 million euros in order to convince Bayer Leverkusen to sell him. However, by general admission, he has not yet been able to justify the cost of his transfer nor has he adapted to the pace of the Premier League.
In the 11 league games he has played in the Liverpool shirt, Wirth has neither scored nor provided an assist. With the appearance against City having caused even more serious concerns.
Wirth is currently a problem. He costs over 120 million euros, and against Manchester City he looked like a small child on the pitch, according to experts.
Indeed, patience for the young German footballer is starting to run out. Initially, he was treated lightly. Understanding that he came to a new country, to a different league. But this cannot continue. He has quality, he is a technically fantastic footballer, but this time he was inferior both physically and psychologically. And that is worrying.
Of course, from their side, Liverpool looked like a team that would be easily defeated. They lacked intensity, they lacked energy. Some footballers looked “soft”, and Wirth was the most typical example.
There is a crisis
In the meantime, everything indicates that Liverpool is facing a crisis. Slott’s team seemed to lack character. When a club like Liverpool loses seven of their last ten games, there is no other word: it is a crisis. They lacked passion, they lacked fight. It is easy to play well when the game has already been decided, but that is not the case... So their Dutch coach, Arne Slot, is faced with serious issues and has to make difficult decisions...
