Harry Kane, second Golden Shoe and a place next to the immortals

The English international forward will receive the “Golden Shoe” for the second time in his career, the reward for another amazing season

In football, goals are numbers. Until they become history. And Harry Kane has now reached that rare point in his career where every number he adds next to his name brings him even closer to the great legends of European football.

On August 19, the Bayern Munich museum will open its doors for a special ceremony. There, the English international forward will receive the “Golden Shoe” for the second time in his career, the reward for another amazing season during which he turned the goal into an almost daily habit.

The 36 goals he scored in the Bundesliga were enough to make him Europe’s top scorer, repeating the success of 2024.

Two “Golden Shoes” now for the England national team captain and a place in an extremely limited football company. Only Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have won the award more times.

Last season's figures seem almost surreal. Kane scored a total of 73 goals in 65 appearances for Bayern and England, adding eight assists. A feat that, according to the relevant data, is the second-highest goal tally in a single season in the 21st century, behind only Messi's incredible 2011/12 season.

He also finished as the Bundesliga's top scorer for the third consecutive season, while finishing second in the UEFA Champions League. He also reached 100 goals for Bayern faster than any player with a club in Europe's top five leagues.

It is therefore not surprising that in Munich they now see in him something more than a charismatic performer.

"Harry Kane stands next to legendary strikers such as Gerd Müller and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge," stressed Bayern president Herbert Hainer, while underlining the character and leadership personality of the Englishman.

Max Eberl went even deeper. For the Bavarians' sporting director, Kane's real value is not limited to the last touch with the ball. It is found in the way he perceives space, in the synchronization of his movements, in his ability to "read" his teammates and create the conditions for the entire attack to work.

The second "Golden Shoe" also places him in a separate line of Bayern's history. Before him, the legendary Gerd Müller had won it twice with the Bavarians, in 1970 and 1972, and the Polish forward Robert Lewandowski, in 2021 and 2022.

Kane is now among them. And this may be his greatest achievement. He went to Munich carrying the reputation of a great scorer. A few years later, he is not just chasing Bayern's records. He has begun to become part of its history himself.
