Fernando Santos ex head coach of Portugal and other squads, now is not longer coach of Besiktas

The 69-year-old Portuguese coach took over the City team on January 7, 2024 and on 4/13 the divorce was announced.


Santos, were already in a difficult position and the new 1-1 home draw with Samsunspor, in the context of the 32nd game, was the last straw. Besiktas had 5 matches in a row without a win and in these they got only two points.


The "eagles" are in fourth place and -4 behind the third-placed Trabzonspor, while they are 36 points from the leader Galata (48 against 84) and 34 points from the second-placed Fenerbahce. The fans were calling for his dismissal or resignation at the end of the match against Samsunspor.


So, the management did not take long to announce the divorce.


There was a hot development in the black and white club. After the meeting between the president of Besiktas Hasan Arat and some members of the board, the club in a statement emphasizes that it has parted ways with Fernando Santos.


"We thank Santos for his services and wish him success in the future. Sernat Topraktepe (U19 coach) will be in charge of the first team until the end of the season."


During his time at Besiktas, Santos sat on the bench in just 13 matches and his record was 7 wins, 4 draws and 5 losses.


Finally,  Santos, who had agreed for 1.5 years, he will receive compensation of 500,000 euros from Besiktas.
