The american billionaire is the new owner of AS Roma
Thomas Daniel Friedkin (born 1965) is an American billionaire, the CEO of The Friedkin Group and the CEO of his subsidiary the Gulf States Toyota Distributors, which was founded by his father, Thomas Hoyt Friedkin, president and CEO of the Friedkin Companies and the new owner and president of Serie A club AS Roma.
In Cinema, he produced films such as the Square (Palme d’ Or at the 2017 Festival de Cannes), all the Money in the World and the Mule. Now he aims to create a powerful AS Roma so that he can star in the Italian championship as soon as possible.
And instead, the day after Roma are there to lick their wounds, even if the enthusiasm brought by Friedkin’s landing made the season finale less bitter. It remains, however, how the elimination with Sevilla ended a year stingy with satisfactions, especially in consideration of the initial goals set by Paulo Fonseca.
The reality, in the end, speaks of something else: 5th place in the league, elimination in the quarters in the Italian Cup and in the round of 16 in the Europa League. It remains, in fact, the landing of Dan Friedkin to erase a bit all the disappointments.
This is enough for now, but it is clear how next season will have to be very different from the current one. The first steps This is why in the meantime we started working hard on the new company.
Ryan Friedkin in front
What is certain is that the club will be led by Ryan Friedkin, Dan’s son, who also in recent months has often come to the capital, where he has already established intense friendships (with Francesco Polimanti, for example, grandson of Andrea Leone, whose opinion you can find below and whose news of possible inclusion in the new Board of Directors had spread).
Guido Fienga will guide the club with him, and at least initially he will remain the club’s CEO. Fienga, among other things, has a contract expiring in October. Someone rumours that he is tired of the many pressures, someone else that he will go on at least for another year.
Of course, Friedkin’s reference today is him, the man Dan trusts most of all. Other top executives will also remain in their place, such as Francesco Calvo (CFO, i.e. commercial director) and Manolo Zubiria, who was linked to Pallotta but who also has a deep relationship with Fienga (and who will continue to deal with international relations).
Meeting with Mayor Raggi Dan Friedkin has changed his program and will stay in Rome for a few more days awaiting a meeting with Mayor Raggi. In the meantime, with his son Ryan, he changed hotel, since yesterday afternoon he left the rented resort in Palo Lazio in the first days of his stay to move to the heart of the capital, at the Cavalieri Hilton.
At the beginning of next week, other institutional meetings are possible, in addition to the one with the Rays, scheduled for Tuesday. The Friedkin’s could also see Federcalcio president Gravina. The one in the Capitol will be an institutional meeting, an act of mutual courtesy, but the main topic will be the stadium. Friedkin will likely be accompanied by Fienga, who will return to operation after the second swab.
Raggi will let him understand that she intends to carry on the project, but that the last step will not arrive before the end of the year. The situation will be reviewed at the Campidoglio, while waiting for the Regional Council and the Metropolitan City to adopt the two sub-conventions that the Capitol had already adopted and which must then be included in the global agreement.
Together with the one that the proposers will sign with Acea for the Meanwhile, as regards the turbulence inside the M5S, after the team-building meeting wanted by the Rays to reunite the movement, on Friday the Budget and Urban Planning Commission will meet to elect the new presidents and vice presidents, after the resignation of the faithful of the Rays, Terranova and Iorio.
In particular, the latter had been very meticulous on the stadium issue, despite having voted yes, she had taken a critical position. To replace it, the election of the architect Chiossi is taken for granted, who, net of the outside of some time ago («I’m from Lazio, so I should be against the stadium») should guarantee a correct process once the dossier arrives in commission.
