FC Barcelona's presence in European competitions next season is seriously jeopardized by the indictment on Friday (10/3) by Barcelona prosecutors against the club of former club presidents Josep Maria Bartomeu and Sandro Rossell, as well as by Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira.
Barcelona - as reported by the Spanish newspaper Marca - is accused of hiring Negreira "to favor the team in refereeing decisions".
The charges relate to the offenses of corruption, breach of trust and false business information. The relevant investigation carried out refers to DASNIL 95 SL, a company owned by
José María Enriquez Negreira, vice-president of the Technical Committee of Referees from 1994 to 2018, who received payments from Barcelona between 2016 and 2018, as revealed by the program
" Qué t'hi juges' by
SER Catalunya. This information refers to a payment of 1.4 million euros to Enrique Negreira.
UEFA - according to Marca - could consider, without waiting for a decision, whether the presence of FC Barcelona in European competitions causes defamation.
Article 4 of the regulations of the events leaves no room for doubt. In fact, this article is put in place to create a line of defense for the spirit of the game and, in particular, for the values that UEFA strives to convey in order to ensure decent competition.
UEFA always reserves the right not to accept clubs that, having won their participation in European competitions, do not meet all the conditions set by the regulations of the three European competitions.
Days ago UEFA asked for information on what was going on when it was just an investigation, but the accusations have raised alarm in both Nyon and Barcelona.
