Aleksander Ceferin has granted an interview to L'Équipe in which he talks about the new format of the Champions League, while acknowledging errors in the conception of the idea and leaving the door open to a sanction for the three clubs that keep the Super League alive: Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus.

Why don't they sanction those three clubs if they have a free hand: "The decision of the Madrid court can be appealed. When the process is over, we can act."

Is a sanction against Madrid, which can win the UEFA Champions League, imaginable?: "It is possible to punish any club. Exclusion? Of course it is possible. But it is the UEFA Disciplinary Committee, which is independent, who will decide."

Doubts about sanctions: "The rules are the same for everyone. And if I comment on what people say every day... They also complain that UEFA earns billions, while 93.5% of the income goes to the clubs. How do you explain this if no one is listening? Believe me or not, but all clubs are treated the same, whether they are from Slovenia, my country, or whether they are big names in European football."

The UEFA Champions League is seen as a Super League: "Having more clubs and more games is not the Super League. The Super League is always having the same clubs playing against each other."

The places awarded by ranking: "I have no problem admitting that our first idea was not the right one. We are stronger if we agree to go back on an initial mistake. Now I am absolutely convinced that it was a bad option."

Friendship with Al-Khelaifi: "It didn't help me. It helped football. If the Super League had been launched, it would have affected everyone, including PSG. He's smart and understands that. I respect him. He's crazy about football He loves PSG and is a valued member of the UEFA executive committee."

Doubts with the VAR: "That there is an offside by 5 millimeters is always a problem for me. If you have a big nose or big feet, you are penalized... And I have a problem with my hands. Nobody understands it anymore This needs to be clarified. Figo told me the other day that if he played today, if he didn't know what to do with the ball, he would shoot the defender's hand."
