The Italians extend Serie A until August 2
After announcing the resolution that will postpone the end of the season to August 2nd, the words of the FIGC President, Gabriele Gravina are:
“The world of football is working unceasingly and responsibly to find concrete and sustainable solutions to the crisis generated by Covid-19, including those necessary and indispensable for safeguarding competitions 20/21.
Also, for this reason, it deserves respect, instead of being used instrumentally for disputed polemics of any foundation. I thank Minister Spadafora for the attention paid in the meeting, during which our approach was explained in depth: to go back to playing safely because common sense tells us and because the international bodies to whom the Italian football is connected.
Confirming what was stated during the meeting and animated by the usual spirit of collaboration, I will send the protocol that we have created to CONI, remaining available for any valuable information.
We are satisfied with the constant confrontation that we are having with the Minister for Sport, but also with those of Health and Economy and Finance, to whom we have proposed all the necessary measures. It amazes me, however, to have to see once again how much the temptation to talk continuously about football, for the notoriety that derives from this, induces several interlocutors to comment on things of which they are evidently poorly informed “.
The Prime Minister
Speech at the press conference for Prime Minister of Italy, Giuseppe Conte after the European Council: “The European Council has just ended and marked an important milestone in European history. All 27 countries have agreed to introduce an innovative tool, a recovery fund to face the Coronavirus emergency.
Common European securities that will finance the most affected countries, including Italy, but not only. This tool is urgent and necessary and Italy is in the front row to request it. This tool will add to the already launched and will make the most solid and effective answer “.
It is worth noting that the newspaper Tuttosport returns to what is the social impact of football on the Italian system. A turnover of 4.7 billion euros and 1.2 billion to the taxman, according to the latest integrated budget of the FIGC. It is 12% of the world football GDP, in Italy, there are 4.6 million practitioners: 1.4 the members for the FIGC and 99% of the matches are amateur and youth level. A movement that is the economy of a microstate that the government cannot avoid ignoring.
Meanwhile, the Premier League clubs plan to return to training on May 9th. The players would have already been warned. We recall that in the United Kingdom the restrictive measures are until 7 May, to then be reviewed.
Despite this, the provisional go-ahead was given to the Premier League to be able to resume playing behind closed doors, despite the current situation. A source told the players were warned that the championship could start again in mid-June, therefore training could resume from mid-May
