UEFA wait that european leagues begin`s in June
UEFA had a teleconference with the 55 general secretaries of its respective national federations on the Tuesday 21 of the month. So he asked everyone to make every effort to restart and complete their national championships.
So that the teams of different countries can qualify for the next European Cups with their athletic performance and not through classifications studied at the table. Everyone agreed and now the UEFA Executive Committee has the floor on Thursday, which will also have a teleconference and will essentially ratify the decision to continue the national championships, except for the shocking unexpected.
Of course, the governments of the countries always have the first say in the issue of the resumption of the national championships due to the pandemic of the crown that has hit the whole world.
If it were not possible to maintain the original format, variations in the formula would also be accepted, perhaps introducing the play-offs and the play-outs,.
The deadline to close the championships will be August 3, the day on which the 15 federations that will not have to go through the preliminary rounds will have the obligation to communicate the names of the teams qualified for the next season’s cups.
In the event (as in Belgium and the Netherlands) it is not possible to respect this limit, it was decided to wait for Thursday when, at the meeting of the Executive Committee, the guidelines for drawing up the rankings on the basis of three elements will be revealed: fairness, transparency and sporting merits.
The possible scenario
The highly probable scenario is the one that foresees August as the month in which to conclude the Europa League and Champions League, with Inter and Rome on the field starting from 2 or 3, Napoles and Juventus from 7 or 8, Atalanta from 11 or from 12. Wolves – Olympiakos in Europa second leg on August 6.
On 27 the Europa League final in Gdansk, on 29 the Champions League final in Istanbul.
At the format level, the current ones are confirmed. The teams will take to the field every three days. Also in August, the qualifications for the 2020/21 cups will be played, while Sundays will be left free for those federations that already want to start the national championships of the new season.
The new season of the Champions League 2020-21 is not scheduled to start before October 20, so it makes sense to go further back. However, the championships will start in September.
